What can we expect in 2022?

The new variant of the Covid-19 virus was discovered at the end of 2021. Certain companies have already asked their employees to work from their homes. WFH (Work From Home) was the new norm in 2021, which might be carried in 2022, well at least for the first quarter of 2022.

The first three months probably the majority of the employee force would be working from home. Here are some simple hacks/rituals/habits/practices one can start in the early part of 2022 to live a sustainable life.

Sustainability hacks

Walk or pedal your way to the grocery store

WFH has resulted in employees discharging their domestic duties in addition to their professional duties. One of the main domestic duties is to get essentials from the local grocer or convenience stores. Instead of using a two-wheeler to reach the grocer, one could use a bicycle or walk to the local grocer to buy essentials.

This would help protect the environment and will have a positive impact on the individual’s health as well.

Turning off fans in elevators while getting out from one

Inculcating the habit of turning off the fan in an elevator is an important resolution one needs to take in the days of living in tall buildings. Not turning off fans results in unnecessary wastage of electricity and is a burden on the pocket too.

Proper E-waste disposal

WFH has resulted in an increased usage of mobile phones, desktops and laptops among other electronic items. Increased usage results in increased E-waste. India is one of the top producers of E-waste in the world (volume-wise). In 2022, we will have to make a conscious effort to curb the improper practices used for E-waste disposal.

RecyclEarth Foundation has started awareness programs to raise awareness about the dangers of E-waste.
